Question: My project is a covered patio The area will be without concrete base. the area will have gravel/sand base. Can I use a 1/2 inch travertine for project?

Answer: It is not suggested that you use 1/2 inch travertine tiles on top of sand and gravel.

We strongly suggest that you install 1/2 inch travertine tile on top of concrete with thin set of mud-set application.

If you have to install on top of gravel and sand, using travertine pavers that are 1.25 inch thick would be a better idea.
